Holy Socks have been sold in Banchory to help Faye fundraise for her trip to Ghana.

Here's what Faye has to say about her trip.

Hi my name's Faye Buckingham

I am a second year student nurse studying at Napier University in Edinburgh.

As part of my experience I have decided to undertake a voluntary placement in

Ghana, Africa, courtesy of Work the World. I am going with another 3 students

from my year and we are all looking forward to making a big difference to the

hospitals we plan to help in. As we are all students we are finding it

incredibly difficult to fund the medical expenses and get hold of medical

equipment (which doesn’t come cheap).

Whilst staying in the village of Takoradi I will be undertaking a 2 week placement

within a paediatric ward in the local hospital. I will then be placed in

a family planning clinic within the hospital for 2 weeks to help plan care

for families in need. After this placement I will move to work within a

community health clinic, which is more of a drop in basis for children with

infections and easily cured diseases such as malaria, here the children

will be given treatment and prevention. This type of clinic is well suited

to the local people as it means they do not have to travel too far to receive

urgent medical attention. In our spare time we get the opportunity to help

out at the local orphanage, this will be a very rewarding experience we are

all looking forward to. I cannot wait to help make a difference to their lives.

In order to raise funds we are planning to undertake a sponsored fun run on the 2nd June.

In which we plan to make complete fools of ourselves by dressing up in fancy dress

and running the length of the 4th road bridge and back again.

A total of 1828m each way. Lets hope the rain stays off. If you fancy

coming to see us at the finish line drop me an e-mail and i’l give you all

the details.

So..... we would like to take this opportunity to ask of you a huge favour, we

need as much sponsorship as we can; and so we ask of you if you would

please pledge a sponsor to us . Anything would be appreciated, even 10p;

which would buy a pair of latex gloves to protect us against blood born

viruses such as HIV.

Thankyou for your time and generosity

Faye, Carolyn, Claire and Ellie
