THE HOLY SOCKS GRAFITTI CROSS 4-7
THE HOLY SOCKS GRAFITTI CROSS

A choice of quotation:

"preach the gospel, ... lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power."
1 Corinthians, 1,17

OR
"Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves
and take up their cross and follow me."
Mark 8, 34

Holy Socks started, not so much as a joke, but from a joke. It quickly developed into a
serious and innovative way to preach the Gospel in the world today.
More and more we are rediscovering the idea of life as a journey, or indeed as pilgrimage,
where we must make decisions as to which way we will walk, how we will walk the path before us -
and with whom we will walk.
Our socks are a combination of that ancient idea of life as pilgrimage and modern novelty socks.
There is no irreverence intended in wearing a cross on our feet, rather a reminder of the
price Jesus paid for us, and an acknowledgement of the cost of our own discipleship
should we choose to walk through life with Jesus.
Struggling to produce a cross for Holy Socks, our designer gave up on the smooth
polished wood and came up with a rugged, knotted, roughly hewn cross -
no one would have cared enough to plane and sand the cross that Jesus hung on.
Our cross, a perfect mixture of ancient Celtic style and modern grafitti has a
lifelike quality about it - almost as though it could get up and walk
or run or dance.
