When people first hear about
Holy Socks, the question they usually ask is "where did you get the
idea?"
The answer to that is
"Skelmorlie."
(For those who may be viewing this website far from Scotland - Skelmorlie is a wee village on the
Clyde Coast, just north of
Largs.)
While attending a study weekend with the Scottish Churches Open College,
I was discussing with some fellow students what I call the "Jesus loves you T-shirt."
Being reserved Scots and for the most part, well over 30, we decided that in some
circumstances, we werenŽt so keen on wearing the T-shirt. I seem to
remember that someone had Wallace and Gromit socks on and we put the
two ideas together and thought Biblical socks would be a great idea!
No one knew if there was such a thing, but
we all decided that if there wasnŽt, there should be, and the ideal
name for this footwear would be Holy Socks.
We all went to bed laughing and when I returned home the next evening, I thought IŽd have a look
on the internet and see if I could be the clever one and find some
Biblical socks which I could either bring to the next weekend or at
least have the information to pass on.
