THE HOLY SOCK SONG.

This was the choir of St. Columba Parish Church who recorded the Holy Socks Song -
with their socks on!!!!

As Daniel braved the lion's den
With God as friend and guide
So may you too
Be accompanied
With angels by your side

As Jonah faced the dark unknown
Despite his doubt and fear
So may you too
Be kept on track
With God's voice loud and clear

As Moses travelled with his friends
Through desert, rocks and sea
So may you too
Reach joyfully
The flag of victory

As Jesus tends his loyal flock
And keeps them on dry land
So may you too
Be sheltered by
His ever loving hand

As Jesus kneels to wash the feet
Of those who love his name
So may we too
Give feet their due
And Holy Socks a home

(or should that be hame!)

Jane M MacKichan

At the time Jane wrote this she was a tutor with the Scottish Churches Open College. While studying the Life of Prayer course - when our Holy Sock idea actually turned into samples - Jane arrived one evening with this poem which became our Sock Song, which we think is great fun. The song covers the original designs. I hope Jane can be inspired to write some more as our range increases. Jane is the manager of Cornerstone, an ecumenical bookshop in Renfield St. Stephens Church in Bath Street, Glasgow. Trained as a prayer guide by the Jesuits, Jane has studied Ignatian and Celtic Spirituality.

Meantime, Andrew Black, organist at St. Columba Church in Helensburgh was asked if he could set the words to music. This he did and I am very grateful to the choir who sing the perfect combination of words and music.

Not to forget to thank the then Minister of St. Columba. An Aberdonian, by birth and training, Rev. Fred Booth was minister at St. Columba Church for 20 years. Now retired, his ministerial wanderings took him to parishes in Stirling and the West Indies.
